About Addicks Reservoir

Addicks Reservoir is a flood-control reservoir in west Houston, built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed in 1948. Together with Barker Reservoir it holds back floodwater that would otherwise run down Buffalo Bayou through the city. Because it exists to hold back floodwater, its level can rise quickly after heavy rain and fall again as water is released.
